A series of custom colour profiles for infra red photgraphy.
A fantastic IR photographer I know called ~
adenant gave me some information about colour profiles in infra red photography and a link to some information that I could use to create custom colour tones in my custom white balances. These are the results.
Each row shows the shot before and after a normal channel change, no adjustments have been done to the original image other than the temperature and tint.
I have taken a picture of mine that has used my own custom white balance and then matched it to the temperature and tint given in each custom colour profile for each white balance. I did this by setting each colour profile in camera and taking a shot with it and then using the temperature and tint information and matching it with my own pure IR image.
Each number is given first as the temperature and then as the tint so that they are easily to input into RAW converting software although you will need to have a decent custom white balance in the first place. To do this just take a custom white balance against something that reflects high infra red light, most people use grass but I find a conifer works very well. If using an unmodded camera your filter MUST BE ON!
Some give very subtle differences to a more classic infrared image but dont be put of by the more "in your face" monochromatic tones, these could be very easily used in black and white or duotone (possibly quad tone) IR images so should not be dismissed. Also some tones may be useful for shots that could be kept without the channel change.
I hope this may be of use to some people as I know I will be experimenting with these colour tones to get the exact feel I may want for IR pieces.
Huge thanks to ~
adenant. Please take the time to visit his gallery for some very beautiful and unique IR+visble light images, there are many people taking IR stuff these days but I can honestly say this guy is in a league of his own although he may not admit it.
Any help would be massively appreciated.
and I agree with DimentionSeven - every camera and filter produces a different thing to start with..
